Rainforest Cafe "Great Place for Family Fun"

The Rainforest Café Restaurant has to be one of the most fun places for kids and family to have fun.  From huge aquariums, life size elephants, giraffes and guerrillas, to the sounds of the forest around you.  The menu selection for both children and adults offers something delicious for all.  Over the years I have dined at the Rainforest Café located at Animal Kingdom - Disney World Orlando, and we have never been disappointed.  What my children love is that after having a great time at Animal Kingdom, the fun continues at the Rainforest Café.

At Rainforest Cafe, we cater to kids. Our loveable Cha! Cha! and the Wild Bunch are here to make sure children of all ages have a great time while exploring the rainforest. So take a look around and find out a little more about our jungle friends. We think you'll agree that the rainforest is the place to be!

Meet the whole gang!

Cha! Cha! - The adventurous and brave red-eyed tree frog
Tuki - The amusing and curious baby elephant
Nile - The crocodile with a large appetite for fun
Bamba - The strong but very kind gorilla
Maya - The fearless jaguar is the protector of the rainforest
Rio - The swift and musical macaw loves to sing and dance
Iggy - The iguana is the oldest and wisest of the Bunch
Ozzie - The wacky yet big-hearted orangutan

MLT Cheesesteaks on Miami Beach

Opened in December 2011, MLT, Cheesesteaks and Grilled Cheese was born out of five lifelong friends’ hunger for authentic Philly Cheesesteaks in their hometown, Miami Beach. Unable to find anything close to authentic in South Beach, the five friends began their quest to create the perfect “Miami” Philly cheesesteak.  Taking frequent trips to the City of Brotherly Love, these five friends painstakingly taste tested the best Philadelphia had to offer.  The result – the best local homemade Philly cheesesteak you’ll find with fresh Amoroso rolls, lean rib-eye steak and don’t forget, Whiz.

But that’s just the half of it.  These five friends also realized that there were no local restaurants dedicated to the simplest yet tastiest of foods – grilled cheese. Come on; who hasn’t had a craving for the cheesy gooey goodness? Again, the five friends sampled and searched and searched and sampled every grilled cheese they could find until they were able to perfect an undeniably toasty, delicious grilled cheese sandwich.  With the freshest ingredients, help from specialty chefs, and a few tricks up their sleeves, MLT’s grilled cheese stands alone…at the top!

And where the tagline ends, the menu begins.  Beyond the Philly cheesesteaks and grilled cheese, the five friends decided that their customers should always be able to sample some of the same foods that high-end restaurants feature but not at high-end prices.  The friends have made sure to include additional specialty foods such as braised BBQ short rib sliders, homemade fried chicken and waffles, truffle macaroni and cheese, fried Oreos and other culinary delights – all offered at affordable prices and made with the freshest ingredients.

May all your cravings always be met @ MLT, CHEESESTEAKS and GRILLED CHEESE!

- The five friends

P.S. – Make sure to check back often as the five friends are always thinking of new and creative ways to serve your favorite comfort foods.

Malanga Cafe "Original Cuban Food" Is a Hidden Gem In Pinecrest!

When you think the best Cuban restaurants have already been thought of in Miami you find "Malanga Cafe".   Less than 12 months ago Malanga Cafe opened it's doors in Pinecrest.  "Original Cuban Flavor" is an understatment, the owner Melissa Vias, the chef, staff, family and friends have all contributed to bringing to South Florida a truely authentic Cuban restaurant.   Malanga Cafe has all the qualities of what makes an excellent Cuban restaurant: "Authentic Cuban Food", "Fresh Ingredients", "Home Made Quality", "Great Presentation" and most of all "Cuban Ambiance" better known as 'SABOR CUBANO!".

One of our favorites is "La Lechoncita", Lechon (Pork in Spanish), is a generous serving of suckling pork served with your choice of vegetables, rice and beans, french fries moro rice or the famous "Malanga Puree".  The pork served at Malanga Cafe is  rotisserie pork roasted daily as it has been done in Cuba and other caribbean islands for hundreds of years.

The ambiance at Malanga is authentic Cuban and Caribbean rythms, the restaurant has music and flat screen TV's providing a fun and vibrant atmosphere.  They also offer live music and invite special guests to perform live.  Malanga is truely a family restaurant, walking into Malanga Cafe you will soon realize that is like sharing a meal with family and friends.

The deserts are deliciouos, our favorite is the "Casquito De Guayaba Con Queso Blanco", Guava preserve with white cheese, the guava is home made!   Malanga's menu has a selection of the most authentic Cuban foods, we recommend you visit Malanga Cafe and experience, taste and enjoy, we guarantee that you will not be disappointed.  Malanga's is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Oops! We can not forget one of Malanga's specialty sandwichs "Pan Con Lechon", once again, a generous serving of shredded pork snuggled between freshly made Cuban bread, absultely delicious.

Oye Cuban Grill A Great New Addition to PInecrest

Oye Cuban Grill has hit Pinecrest like a breath of fresh air, or should we say Mojito!  The unique OYE Cuban Grill is a relatively inexpensive, quick-service restaurant serving authentic Cuban fare that features Cuban sandwiches and platters as well as Cuban pastries and Desserts.

OYE’s well organized quick-service style restaurant permits customers to order their food selections from the large posted menus and have their orders delivered promptly to their tables from well-trained food runners. Moreover, the distinctive aroma of the Cuban cuisine is ideally suited to promote the authenticity of the freshly prepared food and is a notable and appreciated customer appeal.

The vision of the OYE Cuban Grill was created by the active managing partners – Hector F. Gutierrez, his son, Ian (a recent graduate of George Washington University, and Howard Rodriguez, the first cousin of Hector Sr. Another of Hector’s son, Christopher, is presently attending Catholic University, and upon graduation will also be joining the OYE organization in a management capacity. Their nostalgic Cuban history includes their family’s past, their struggles and successes, their abiding love of the USA, and their siblings inheriting all of the indigenous traits of Cuban Americans now experiencing the American dream.

The business name, OYE, “Organization of Young Entrepreneurs” clearly depicts how the children became American educated and are now establishing a piece of the American dream by developing and managing the first of many planned OYE Cuban Grills.

Inspired by our family’s recipes and tradition of Cuban cuisine. Our vision is to fuse our Cuban food heritage with our passion for the American lifestyle.

Original Cuban Sandwich "Sandwich Cubano"

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf Cuban bread.
  • 1-ounce regular mustard
  • 4 dill pickles
  • 5 slices boiled ham or Virginia ham
  • 2 slices roast pork
  • 1 slice imported Swiss cheese.
  • 1-ounce butter

Directions

  • Cut Cuban bread to desired size, common size is 7 inches.
  • Next, slice open the bread down the middle.
  • On the topside of the bread spread 1-ounce of mustard, evenly across.
  • Then place 4 pickles on top of the mustard.
  • You then place 1 slice of Swiss cheese on top of the pickles.
  • Slice ham to desired thickness, recommended size is 1 1/2 ounces per slice, the thinner the better. Now fold each slice of ham in half and place evenly on bottom of bread.
  • On top of the ham, place slices of roast pork, 1 1/2 ounces per slice.
  • You then join both halves of the sandwich.
  • You are now ready to grill your Cuban sandwich.
Use a sandwich grill if you have one, a waffle iron if not. Spread butter on top of the bread evenly. Close the grill, smashing the sandwich. Leave the sandwich in the grill until the top of bread turns to a golden brown, and the top is crisp. Approximate time is 4 to 6 minutes. After the sandwich is crispy and the cheese has melted, remove the sandwich carefully and slice it diagonally, from corner to corner. DO NOT USE A MICROWAVE OVEN!

Typically served by itself or with a choice of french fries or fried green plantain chips ("mariquitas").

Cuban Sandwich "Sandwich Cubano" Miami Style

For those of you that enjoyed the Cuban Sandwhich recipe, I am sorry to say that those who wrote it "Three Cuban Guys from Miami" who manage three other websites dedicated to Cuban food and restaurants, had a problem with me posting their recipe on my blog.

Not only was I providing links to their sites, not only was I promoting their sites for free, not only was I promoting their two cook books, They still had a problem.

As always, we comply with everyone's request, we always provide direct links and full credit to the authors, in this case what can I say, these are just three cuban guys from Miami.  Well, I'm a Cuban guy from Miami and I share.

Don't worry, we will get you the best Cuban Sandwich pictures and recipes we can.  There are plenty of recipe sites out there that collaborate and share.

Tune in for the next Cuban Sandwich.

OneBurger "More Than a Hamburger Place"

Straight from the founders @ OneBurger

Oneburger, a new and unique burger concept located adjacent to its sister restaurant, The Globe Cafe
& Bar in Coral Gables.

“My goal was two-fold” said daniel guiteras, oneburger's founder. “first, we set out to create a basic, but more gourmet or boutique burger (using the highest quality ingredients) that was a cut-above the standard fast-food prototype, but still more affordable than a higher-end restaurant burger. secondly, we wanted to take classic dishes or recipes and apply them to the 'art' of the burger. we really wanted to get out of the 'cheese, lettuce, tomato' box. The more creative we got in the test kitchen, the more we saw the potential for truly unique burgers. oneburger recipes are modern and really delicious, and, moreover, we feel that their time has come as today's consumers have a more sophisticated food sense.”

“Along with all this we also wanted to create a more cutting-edge and progressive identity in terms of design and packaging. the look and style of oneburger is something important to us. From a design stand-point, I think we are the first building painted pure black in coral gables. The positive response to this has been surprising”

Oneburgers menu is divided into four categories: beef; chicken/ turkey & veal; seafood; and vegetarian.

Beef burgers run the gamut from modern takes on traditional burgers such as the “patty melt”, the “old school” (royal castle style), “twin minis” and the "bacon cheddar" (with pancetta bacon & english double gloucester farmstead cheese) to more zeitgeist, recipe-based burgers such as the “kobe”, the “au poivre”, a “frita cubana” and the “black, black & blue burger” - a delicious combination of homemade and hand-rubbed blackening powder with a black bean spread and maytag blue cheese.

Rounding-out the 30 burger menu (the name oneburger is a play on “the number one burger”) are crispy chicken sandwiches, a broad range of inventive salads, soups, chicken tenders and wings, three types of hand-cut fries (yukon gold potato, yuca and sweet potato), beer battered onion rings, thick milkshakes, homemade desserts, adult and kid toy meals (with cool objects culled from around the world) and breakfast choices including bagel/biscuit burgers and authentic belgian waffles. Restaurant.com OneBurger Gift Certificates: Save up to 60% off your next meal!

As a OneBurger customer I will just say "it's great to have a real, juicy burger for a change" and after the burger walk over to The Globe and enjoy a cocktail.  Great food and fantastic selection for those who prefer something other than a burger.
